Government of Goa !! You fooled us !!

A new tactic has been devised by our Government to dissuade the people from using RTI Act. Now they want us to submit an affidavit or Residence Certificate every time and for each of the RTI application we make. this is said to be required for verifying the citizenship of the RTI Applicants.

So what is the purpose of verifying the citizenship???
Whatever it may be, can the government prevent me/us from providing the information obtained to a foreign national???can they??
And what if an Indian citizen files an RTI application on behalf of a Foreigner??

The question is, what the Government wishes to accomplish?.
The RTI act already provides exemption provisions, by which certain information is prohibited from disclosure which also includes information which may affect the security of the country.

When the purpose cannot be achieved why this compulsion to submit citizen ship proof with each and every RTI application???

I my self file around 15-30 RTI Applications per month, the reality is that the Government has now discouraged me from filing RTI Applications by bringing in such irrational objections.

The person who issued such a decision is not capable of holding such post and he may resign in public interest.his incompetence has been proved by the content of the Right to Information Act 2005 itself.the section 6(2) of the RTI act says that: "an applicant making request for information shall not be required to give any reason for requesting the information or  any other personal details except those that may be necessary for contacting him.”

Further this stand of the Government is against the fundamental right conferred to us by the the constitution.
